Killeshandra 1-11    Knockbride 1-7

Fourteen-man Killeshandra earned their place into the semi-finals of the intermediate football championship tonight after overcoming a gusty second-half performance from Knockbride at Kingspan Breffni Park.

Shane O'Reilly's 24th minute goal had the Leaguers coasting this quarter-final replay by the halfway stage, when they led by seven points, but in the second-half their opponents upped their performance vastly.

A fantastic goal from Larry Reilly, who finished with 1-5, shot the Division Two champions into life early on in the restart and further points from the classy attacker brought the difference down to a goal in the dying stages, when Killeshandra lost Colm Duffy to a second yellow card but they still managed to hold out for a crucial victory.

Killeshandra started strongly, with Finbar Rudden, Eamonn O'Reilly and Declan McKiernan (free) sending over the first three points inside eight minutes.

Knockbride hadn't even threatened a response in the meantime and they were let off the hook when Tomas O'Reilly's surge from midfield saw the 22-year-old blast for the net only to be denied by a superb save from Ronan Keaskin.

A Larry Reilly free finally had the Canningstown men off the mark after 20 minutes, but it was soon cancelled-out by an effort from Tomas O'Reilly and they would suffer a worse blow minutes later which would put the Leaguers firmly in the driving-seat.

After good work from youngster Conor Smith, the corner-back launched a high ball into Keaskin's square which Knockbride failed to clear and wing-back Shane O'Reilly was quickest to pounce and bury the O'Neills size five to the net.

Larry Maguire posted the reply for Knockbride with their first score from play, but it didn't upset the town side's rhythm as a splendid 50-metre free from McKiernan and further points from Cein Sweeney and Austin Fitzpatrick ushered them into an eight-point advantage.

Knockbride best move of the half came in the added minutes when Larry Reilly went on a trademark dart down the wing and crossed, in effort of a point, to Adrian Carroll, who fisted over to close the half at 1-7 to 0-3.

Darren Clarke and Adam Traynor were introduced to the fray for Knockbride at the start of the second-half, but it was their old reliable veteran Reilly that gave them the shot in the arm they needed three minutes into the restart. A good ball from Ollie Mulvey picked out the former county senior lurking in front of goal and after ghosting past his marker he fired in an unstoppable shot off the underside of Damien McCaul's crossbar to make it a four-point game with the guts of an entire half to play.

Knockbride needed to kick on after that, but another long range free from the deadly McKiernan pegged them back before Reilly sent over his second point with another goal in his sights.

Eamonn O'Reilly struck a terrific response for the Division One side, but they were still struggling to cope with Reilly down the other end as a free and another brilliant point from the Knockbride number 15 trimmed their deficit down to three.

Reilly repeated the trick on 52 minutes after grabbing a sideline from Mulvey to leave things on a knife edge heading towards the closings stages, but a point from Finbar Rudden, after a neat lay-off by Adie Burns, eased the pressure on Killeshandra momentarily.

However, they weren't aided by the sending off of full-back Colm Duffy for a second caution after an altercation with Reilly in the 57th minute.

McKiernan could have killed it off with a 40 metre free a minute later, but the midfielder's effort tailed just wide with four minutes of injury-time set to ensue for the nervy Leaguers.

Knockbride aimed for Reilly one more time in the desperate hunt of a goal, but a brave interception from Ciaran Owens, who was guarding in Duffy's absence, prevented the danger and in the next attack Burns was slipped through to fire over the insurance point to confirm Killeshandra's semi-final spot.

Killeshandra: Damien McCaul; Conor Smith, Colm Duffy, Joe Masterson; Ciaran Owens, Darragh Tighe, Shane O'Reilly (1-0); Declan McKiernan (0-3, 3f), Tomas O'Reilly (0-1); Adie Burns (0-1), Austin Fitzpatrick (0-1), Finbar Rudden (0-2); Justin Hayes, Cein Sweeney (0-1), Eamonn O'Reilly (0-2). Sub: Adrian Martin for A Fitzpatrick (49 mins).

Junior men in championship final

The junior men defeated Laragh in Terry Coyle Park on Wednesday last to secure a spot in the Junior D championship final. Final score: Killeshandra 1-12 Laragh 1-10. The saffrons will face Killinkere in the final, time and venue to be confirmed.

Ladies defeated in 9-a-side final

In a game played in torrential rain Killeshandra were unlucky to lose in the Division 2 nine-a-side final. Despite Killeshandra having more possession Killygarry were first of the mark with 2 points in the opening minutes. Patricia O’ Reilly finally got the leaguers on the score board with a well taken point; however Killygarry extended their lead with a point from their corner forward. At this stage Killeshandra were on the constant attack and missed 2 goal chances and kicked 3 wides. Killygarry scored 2 more points before Annemarie Connolly helped the leaguers settle with a well taken point and she set Niamh Mulligan up for a great goal. Joanne Hayes followed this up with a pointed free which gave the leaguers a minimal lead at half time, 1-3 to 5 points. The second half was marked with heavy downpours which make clean football difficult for both teams; Killygarry opened the scoring and drew level with a point before Joanne Hayes put over another free for the leaguers. At this stage with the majority of possession the leaguers were struggling with the shooting and Killygarry broke through a tight defence which was led by an exceptionally strong Emma Mulligan, to score a goal. They followed with another point which left Killeshandra with 2 points to find, Annmarie Connolly found the black spot again and shot over but unfortunately for the girls Killygarry finished the stronger with another goal which in the dying minutes left the game well decided.

Killeshandra: Sinead O’Reilly, Sinead Duffy, Emma Mulligan, Natasha Brady, Melissa King, Patricia O Reilly, Niamh Mulligan, Laura Feeney, Sile Sweeney, Ciara Brady, Sinead Kelly, Joanne Hayes, Maeve Duffy, Caroline Olwill, Celine Reilly, Nicola Clail, Sinead Duffy,Annemarie Connolly.

Thank you to Donal Keoghan

The senior ladies wish to thank Donal Keoghan of the Imperial for his generous sponsorship of new kit bags for the whole team.

Senior Ladies Results

On Sunday last the ladies good form on home ground continued with a convincing 6-02 to 0-09 win over Drumgoon in the semi-final of the 9-a-side adult league. All attacks on goal by Drumgoon were quickly foiled by the dogged defending displayed by the back line, while the forwards had no trouble finding the back of the net. Once again the team attacked en masse with goals coming from captain and corner back Sinead Duffy, four from full forward Laura Feeney and one from corner forward Sile Sweeney, Point scorers were Niamh Mulligan and Sile Sweeney. The girls fought hard the whole game to ensure this victory and have certainly earned their spot in the final details of which are TBC. Good luck girls!

Senior Ladies Results
Despite being depleted by a plethora of injuries the ladies unbroken winning streak on home ground continued in style on Sunday last when they inflicted a 2-10 to 0-8 defeat on Killygarry. At half time, in what was a rough and physical game, the sides were four points apiece, however as is their habit the girls came out fighting in the second half and went straight on the attack. The forwards and midfield found their target with every shot on goal and cross bar, while the backs refused to give Killygarry an inch tenaciously defending as a pack. The girls will now play the 9 a side adult league semi-final, date and venue TBC.
