Seniors ACLF Division 3

ACFL Division 3 Rd13

Saturday evening saw 2 of the top teams in Division 3 come together to play in Packie Devlin park in Killeshandra. Killeshandra Leaguers were hosting Drumgoon where a win for Drumgoon would see them promoted to Division 2. Drumgoon got off to a blistering start with the aid of the wind scoring 6 unanswered points. First point was in the second minute of the game. A well pointed 45 from Conal Farrell(11) shortly followed by Farrell again getting his second in the third minute. 3 minutes later Drumgoon were awarded a 20m free from referee Martin Sexton which Padraig McCorry(15) tapped over. From the kick out Caolan Jackson McCabe(12) was first to react and slotted over Drumgoons fourth point. Conal Farrell(11) getting another free in the 10th minute and Ronan McDonald(8) getting the next saw Drumgoon up 00-06 to 00-00 after 11 minute.

The Leaguers never panicked and soon got up to Drumgoons pace. In the 13th minute the Leaguers opened up their account with a free from the 13m line with the trusted left boot of Eoin Brady(12). 3mins later another free saw Shane Murphy get the Leaguers 2nd point. The Leaguers cut the deficit down to a single point when Darragh Tighe(10) connected with the back of the next with a soccer style goal. The equalising point was then scored by Eoin Brady(12) with a long range kick. The game now drawn it took 7 minutes for the next score to go on the scoreboard and it came from a free from Conal Farrell(11). Minutes later Farrell (11) received a black card from Martin Sexton for pulling down a Leaguers attacker. The black card would be converted to red for decent and Drumgoon were now down to 14 men. Drumgoons last point of the first half came from a 45 their goalkeeper Corey Smith(1) taking up the responsibility. The Leaguers replied with their final point of the half with a point from outside the 45 from Thomas O Reilly(9). Score at the break was Killeshandra (01-04) Drumgoon (00-08)

The second half saw it the turn of the Leaguers to start off with a blistering pace. 7 points without reply saw the Leaguers make the score line (01-11) to (00-08). Points from Thomas O Reilly(9), Shane Murphy(13) 1 from play, 2 frees, Eoin Brady(12), Shane Reilly(11) and Aaron Brady(8) saw the Leaguers open a commanding 6pt lead with 9 mins left to play. Drumgoon a team never to lie down got their first points of the 2nd half with 2 pts from Adrian Crossen(14). The Leaguers target man Shane Murphy put a stop to a Drumgoon comeback by scoring (01-01) in the space of a minute. A 20m free and then Murphy climbed highest in the box to fist the ball into the Drumgoon net. In the 28th minute Shane McCorry(10) got the last score of the game.

A game which saw both teams give everything they had, saw the Leaguers finished the game 7pts the better team with a score line of (2-12) to (0-11).
